Sector and sub-industries
There are numerous industrial classification schemes, advocated by different organisations, which can lead to confusion.
It is usually possible to convert between the systems if needed, e.g. SBTN's Sectoral Materiality Tool offers a 'crosswalk' between ISIC, NACE and GICS.

Developed by Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), SICS classifies industries based on sustainability-related risks and opportunities, rather than sources of revenue.
Recommended by TNFD
Developed by MSCI and S&P Dow Jones Indices to provide investors with "consistent and exhaustive industry definitions".
Used by EXIOBASE
The United Nations' industry classification system, maintained by the UN Statistics Division.
Used by ENCORE and SBTN’s Sector Materiality Tool
The EU's industry classification system; it is the European implementation of ISIC: NACE categories are defined either to be the same as single ISIC categories, or form subsets of those categories.
